We visited the old bridge over Trout Creek, just off Pioneer Trail and Golden Bear Trail, South Lake Tahoe. Found some mortar that had a date and some letters scratched into it.

Finding the old trails can be a difficult task. Often the path has not been maintained so finding the old route depends on intuition, skill, and some signs guiding the way.

We visit the historic site of the Donner Party encampment of the winter of 1846-47. The Donner Tree, as well as the Overland Emigrant trails, are highlights.

A great 1915 photo from the William M McCarthy collection at the California State Archives. Titled, "Summit of the Sierras," it shows two sets of railroad tracks, which indicates this is not Donner Summit, as all the tracks there were covered. Is this the Yuba Pass area?
